The Printed Stash
by Lynn Krawczyk

This technique based workshop will have you creating your very own
printed fabrics in the blink of an eye!
Using the exciting surface design techniques of Thermofax Screen Printing and
Gelatin Plate Monoprinting, Lynn shows you how simple it is to create personal
imagery on fabric to make your projects sparkle.
You will learn the basic techniques of Thermofax Screen Printing and how to build upon your skills by printing layers. We’ll discuss what images work best and how to work with color to get your desired results. Gelatin Plate Monoprinting has never been easier and produces truly unique fabrics that are perfect for any project.

(Both of these techniques can be used by fabric and paper artists.)

We’ll spend some time discussing how to use the fabulous fabrics you’ve created.
While we won’t work through a specific project,
several examples will be given to spark your imagination.

Please join me in creating The Printed Stash!!! :)

burnt edge, ribbon work and a rosette technique that was popular in the 30's (Annie's never taught this flower before because she holds it as dear as a secret family recipe). You'll also learn the best tips, tricks and supplies for starting and finishing them beautifully. Make your projects the envy of all who see them with these elaborate and whimsical creations.

Joanna Martinez
Needleturn Applique Mini Quilt
In this workshop you will learn not to only do, but how to enjoy applique! I will teach you my favorite technique, needleturn applique, and tips and tricks to make it easier than you think it is. We will make a modern shaped appliqued tree mini-quilt wall hanging. I will walk you step by step through the entire process, including choosing fabrics, transferring your pattern to your fabric, prepping your applique pieces, my needleturn applique technique, free-motion quilting, and binding. These are all things I wish I had known when I started, because had I known how fun and easy it could be, I wouldn't have been so scared to try!

Deborah Boschert
Branches, Buds and Blossoms:
A Botanical Fabric Collage
Join me in exploring botanical shapes, textures and patterns! I’ll share my process for creating a collage incorporating fabric, machine and hand stitching, and a variety of unexpected materials and techniques. You’ll choose your own fabrics, compose an original design and experiment with layers of detail. I’ll teach ways to add personal design to your fabrics with painted patterns. We’ll use simple construction techniques, then enhance your collage with a variety of unusual materials and interesting embellishments. Plus, I’ll share tons of fun embroidery stitches to add more detail.

Jennifer Ofenstein
Paper Piecing Art, Beginner and Beyond
Learn the basics of paper piecing step-by-step and create an
8" x 10" piece of fabric art ideal for embellishing, framing, quilting or incorporating into a larger project. Choose fabrics to reflect your style and personality to create a piece that is uniquely you. Paper piecing is a quilting technique that involves stitching fabric onto a paper foundation. It's highly versatile, fun to learn and extremely addictive to do!

Mollie Johanson
In the Clutch Fold-Over Purse
In this workshop, we'll make a simple and versatile clutch purse using embroidery and hand sewing techniques. We'll also see how this same design and method can be adapted to make pouches and bags in a variety of shapes and sizes. You'll soon have little purses to go with everything you own!

Paula Joerling
Fanciful Stitched Paper Flowers

This workshop will explore the different techniques that I use to create a variety of stitched flowers. The flowers will be constructed of stitched paper and will be embellished with buttons, jewelry and beads. These beautiful one of a kind flowers  can be used for any number of things. Place cards, arrangements, corsages and gift toppers are just a few of the things you can do with the beautiful flowers you will make in this workshop.

Jackie Bowcutt
Make Your Mark with Stitch:
Let's Play Noughts and Crosses
In this workshop you will make a stitched panel using Noughts and Crosses as the design inspiration. ‘Noughts and Crosses’ is a popular children’s game in the UK; I believe it is sometimes known as ‘Tick-Tack-Toe’ in the States. You will learn how to colour your fabric and make marks using monoprinting as a basis for hand stitching. It will be fun deciding on your chosen colours. I will make suggestions to help you make the most of your thread choices. I will then show you a few simple stitches with which to bring your design to life. You will learn some straight forward processes which will result in a stitched piece which could be made into a panel for a bag front, placed on a cushion or used as a picture. Most importantly, you will have learned a technique which you can go on to use with varied marks to make a range of stitched work.

Sara Lawson
Fylerion Bag
In this workshop, you will learn how to make a great handbag. I start with a basic design that even a beginner would be able to navigate, but the attention to detail in this bag kick it up a notch. During the construction, you will learn how to use interfacing, install a magnetic snap, sew on cording, and create pockets. This bag will be the focal point of your every day style!

*this workshop ends June 30th  2012*

Wendi Gratz
Peekaboo Bear Quilt
In this workshop you'll learn how to make a cute quilt with an appliqued bear popping up into every block. You'll learn a couple of simple stitches to embroider the face, three different applique techniques (ranging from the super-fast to the super-heirloom), and how to piece, machine quilt, and bind your quilt. Make a single block for a pillow, or multiple blocks for a quilt. I'll include dimensions and cutting instructions for a wall hanging, a crib quilt, or a twin-sized quilt. This is a great project for those new to quilting and/or applique!

Vanessa Wilson
Baby's First Quilt & Toy

In this workshop, I will show you how to make two wonderful projects that any baby will enjoy. One is an easy and creative baby quilt measuring approximately 36" x 36", that can also be a wall hanging and even a tummy-time mat for your baby. The other project is a cute and cuddly owl softie. The owl is made out of the scraps left over from the quilt. A pdf file is provided and includes the complete owl pattern.  I will also show you how to machine applique the facial features on a super easy and effective way to stuff the little guy. I will teach you how to cut all of the fabric pieces needed, and everything from pinning, marking, cutting and sewing will be demonstrated. Once you have the fabric cut, it all comes together pretty quickly. NO machine quilting skills required, NO fancy longarm machines, and NO having to pay a professional quilter. You can make the entire quilt yourself.  You won't even have to deal with making, attaching and hand stitching binding on either.  I have a very cool method of hand tying and completing this quilt that will make this project a breeze. This is a great workshop for the complete beginner.

Nikki Wheeler
Mini Treasure Box of Dreams
In this workshop you will learn to make a mini 1-1/2 inch fabric art box filled with dreams. You will learn my backwards method of quilting, how to make fabric paper and the tricks of quick machine construction. You will then fill the box with little scroll fabric beads to remind yourself of your dreams. Dreams—I know you have them. Maybe they are bubbling through your life. Maybe you are following them with passion. Or maybe they are still hiding in your heart waiting for the right time to be set free. We will also explore different possibilities for these boxes in a range of sizes, including tea boxes and nesting boxes.

Cindy Caraway
Fabric Flower Corsage Cuff
Using simple supplies you can make this striking corsage-style cuff. Over a base of lace are sumptuous layers of organza ribbon and fabric roses. The gathered fabric roses are embellished with vintage buttons and the cuff is lined with soft cotton jersey. Amazingly light and comfortable to wear, this cuff can be made in with an endless variety of fabrics in any combination of colors.

Penney Klaproth
Accordion Photo Book
Learn to uniquely preserve your memories by combining photos, fabric, hand stitching, and lots of love.  In this class you will learn to create a fabric-based tri-fold accordion photo album which can be displayed in several ways.  If you've not sewn on photos before you're in  for a treat!  A working knowledge of your sewing machine, a few basic embroidery stitches, and a willingness to think outside “the scrapbook” are the basic tools needed in creating this one-of-a-kind “uniquely you” photo book.   You will learn to select materials that blend together as well as how to create layouts using photos as the focal point.  You will become fearless adding texture on your fabric pages to compliment your choices and photos by using your sewing machine, trim, and hand stitching.    Don't be afraid of loose threads, crooked stitches, or raw edges....... imperfections are encouraged!    Have memorabilia related to your photos?  Let's add that.  Sticks and stones may break your bones, but they look great in juxtaposition to your fabric and stitches.  After embellishing with embroidery, metal, ribbon, and possibly the kitchen sink you will join your three pages together with a quick, easy ribbon closure.  When finished, your accordion photo album can stand on its own or be secured as a book you can display with pride.  And you can say.......” I did that!”

Tracie Lampe
Bohemian Bag
In this workshop, I will show you how to make a colorful and stylish bohemian-inspired bag out of old sweaters and recycled wool garments. You will learn how to sew on a sturdy gusset, a pocket and a multi-textured strap for added color and interest. I will also show you how to incorporate bits of felting, hand stitching and freeform beaded wool beads. In this video workshop, I will show you step-by step, ways of recycling that will not only result in a bohemian bag, but that I hope will inspire many other sewing and creative projects. The result will be a colorful, freeform and one-of-a-kind bag. Uniquely YOU in every way.

Karen Ruane
Funky Puffs
Learn how to create unique, decorative embellishments to use in your own work. Together we will embroider cloth, we will create tiny windows with lace and colour peeping through before manipulating the decorated cloth into soft, fabric beads that will enhance any edge or area of your own embroidery. Perhaps you could even create your own fun jewellery from the finished puffs, the possibilities are endless!!

Tammy Gilley
Heartstrings
Bright happy colors and your found treasures - the things that tug at your heartstrings - that is what makes up these sweet little treasures that I call 'heartstrings'. Very basic sewing skills will enable you to whip up this fun little pouf of stitch-y goodness. We'll incorporate buttons, beads, charms, ribbons, little bits of fabric...basically, all the little goodies and doodads that you've already got in your crafty stash. The simplicity of this project, and the fact that it uses stuff you've been collecting along the way, makes it a very satisfying one, indeed. We'll stitch, stuff, embellish, and embellish some more on these small felt hearts, and then create a string of fabric beads and buttons, and whatever else we come up with, to hang it in the corner of your studio, or to drape it over a doorway for good wishes. An easily accomplished project that packs a lot of punch.

Ann Tucker
Working in Wool: A Flower Garden Pillow Workshop
It’s time to go “green” – with any color! Using reclaimed wool blankets and felted wool sweaters, this workshop will guide you, step-by-step, on how to create your one-of-a-kind pillow. You will learn how to: prepare your wool (utilizing every inch of your sweater!), properly cut materials for your specific pillow size, create flowerets from wool
and other recycled items, and easily stitch up your finished product. What a perfect gift to create for your favorite person...or yourself!

Dale Anne Potter
Journal your Landscape
In this workshop, we will create a 5.5 X 8.5 inch mixed media fabric journal. We will be exploring with fabric painting with watercolor Inktense pencils, machine and hand sewing, hand embroidery and will be adding bits of paper collage. The Lutradur cover will be hand painted, machine & hand stitched as well as hand embroidered and collaged, while inside, the journal will contain four fabric pages that you can paint, draw, journal, quilt, or applique on. You will be shown a basic book binding technique. You learn how to make a one-of-a-kind journal, but these techniques will enhance your fabric and mixed media work.

Jill Verbick O'Leary
The "Queen of Creativity" Tiara
Lets push past your creative comfort zone and celebrate the unique spirit inside the one and only, amazing you! We'll explore a number of innovative color applications, sewing techniques and fiber twists and turns to design and embellish your one-of-a-kind, fabric creations. Discover the creative queen inside of you!

Kelli Nina Perkins
Rolling Pin Sampler
What happens when we open ourselves to serendipity, let go of preconceived ideas about art, and love what is? You’ll find out as we take a mixed media journey and let inspiration find us. Join me in making random poetry, painting with watercolor, printing on fabric, infusing cloth with juiciness and weaving wonderment throughout our mixed media sampler. Then we’ll make magic with a vintage rolling pin, as we stitch our serendipity fabric into a scrumptious scroll book to hold our found poems. Art to hold in the hand and poetry to hold in the heart.
